Authorities search for hit and run driver in injurious accident

Three girls were hit by a vehicle on Mississippi Avenue near Lowden Street at around 2:35 a.m. on June 14, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Police have been looking for the hit and run driver, who was reported to be driving a white Crown Victoria. Reports indicated that two men were in the car, one appeared to be African-American and the other Hispanic.

The girls, who were ages 10, 11, and 14, remained in serious condition at Cook Children’s Medical Center. The father of the oldest girl said his daughter had been staying with the other two girls, who were her close friends.

Officer struck by vehicle outside patrol cruiser in Fort Worth

A 37-year-old police officer in Fort Worth, Texas was critically injured after he was hit by a vehicle at around 10 p.m. along Interstate 30 near Henderson Street on September 2, CBS DFW reported.

According to a news release from the Fort Worth Police Department, the officer was outside his patrol cruiser due to a report of furniture in the road when he was struck by a vehicle.

Corporal Tracey Knight said that the officer was transported to the Harris Methodist Hospital in a critical condition, but added that he was stable and had been “alert and talkative” during the transport. MedStar EMS spokesman Matt Zavadsky said the officer sustained a broken right femur, several cracked vertebrae, head trauma, among other injuries.

No charges have yet been filed, but police authorities plan to examine the dash cam in the police car for more information.

Two pedestrians die in North Texas accidents

Two pedestrians were hit by vehicles in separate incidents on North Texas highways on Wednesday, August 13, leading to their untimely deaths, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Thirty-seven-year-old Shanta Martin died at around 4:45 a.m. on Interstate 35W near Alta Mesa Boulevard in Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth police are investigating her case.

Meanwhile, a Tarrant County medical examiner identified the body of a man killed on Interstate 30 near Ballpark Way in Arlington as 24-year-old Jay Wolf, who was walking along the highway when he was struck by a vehicle. This accident occurred hours before the Fort Worth incident, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Wolf’s death.

Both drivers remained at the scene and called the police after the pedestrians were struck.

Fort Worth hit-and-run arrest

A 44-year-old Fort Worth resident has been taken into custody by officials. The man was charged with failure to stop and render aid.

An anonymous party tipped the Fort Worth police off about the location of the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that resulted in the death of of 63-year-old Douglas Tunnell.

Tunnell was walking across 3100 Alta Drive when he was hit by a southbound silver Jaguar S-type four-door sedan.

When the police arrived at the address, they found the vehicle in question. The police enforced their search warrant, confiscated the car, and arrested the owner, James Standerfer.

Halloween pedestrian accident leaves elderly woman in critical condition

A 61-year-old woman from Cleburne, Texas sustained critical wounds after being hit by a car on Halloween while trick-or-treating with her daughter and grandson.

Police spokeswoman, Detective K. Summey, said the victim was participating in Cleburne Bible Church’s  “Trunk or Treating” event when the accident occurred. According to Summey, after successfully crossing four lanes of traffic en route to the church, a Honda Pilot struck the woman in the 900 block of North Nolan River.

The elderly woman was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, her grandson and daughter sustained minimal injuries.
